CPQ Insights: Miele Professional & SteelcoBelimed

Digital transformation with CAS Merlin CPQ

In the global landscape of industrial manufacturing, Miele Professional stands as a symbol of precision, reliability, and innovation. As part of the internationally renowned family-owned Miele Group, Miele Professionals focuses on creating larger, high-performance machines tailored for commercial use from hotels and hospitals to laboratories and the medical sector.

With a strong presence in the pharmaceutical industry, Miele’s Professional division continues to lead with excellence in both product quality and digital innovation.

In the CSSD (Central Sterile Supply Department) business, where devices are used to sterilize surgical instruments, the Miele subsidiary SteelcoBelimed designs and manufactures equipment for instrument reprocessing and has a fully configurable product portfolio. Steelco merged with Belimed in 2024, forming SteelcoBelimed and bringing together two strong brands with shared goals.

Why CPQ? Complexity Across Systems

As Miele Professional continued its journey toward digital excellence, a central question emerged: how could they manage growing product complexity across multiple systems without compromising efficiency or customer experience?

Miele Professional operates with its own ERP environments, both on-premise and in the cloud. Within this setup, the company identified clear potential to strengthen its digital capabilities in sales and system configuration. Historically, Miele Professional relied on fixed material numbers and non-configurable products. As customer requirements became more diverse, the need for a configurable product landscape emerged.

To address this, Miele turned to CAS Merlin CPQ with the ambitious vision to integrate product and service configuration into the ERP system while maintaining seamless connectivity to SAP and Miele’s sales cloud (C4C).

How to implement a CPQ solution into a complex product environment?

Given Miele’s diverse product portfolio and country-specific assortments, a step-by-step rollout was essential. The configurator had to be graphical and intuitive, allowing modelers to work without learning a new programming language. Moreover, flexible interfaces and modern API technology ensured that all systems could communicate effortlessly.

The solution connected directly to Miele’s S/4 systems and sales cloud, synchronizing product data, images and region-specific assortments. Sales representatives can now create quotes directly within the sales cloud, automatically transferring data to CAS Merlin CPQ for configuration and pricing. The previous limitations of the Sales Cloud’s quoting system were successfully compensated by the CPQ solution, leading to more reliable and faster quotes.

A key factor in the implementation journey of CAS Merlin CPQ at Miele Professional was the early involvement of end users. From the beginning, feedback from sales teams was actively integrated into the development process. This collaborative approach resulted in positive user feedback and smooth adoption across teams.

Is it possible to implement a CPQ solution in a few months?

After the successful CPQ implementation with Miele Professional, the digital transformation continued with SteelcoBelimed in March 2024. With SteelcoBelimed the project reached a remarkable milestone by achieving a full go-live after just nine months, successfully implementing the entire product portfolio into CAS Merlin CPQ. Given the project’s complexity, this was a remarkably short timeline.

SteelcoBelimed’s implementation featured deep integration between CAS Merlin CPQ and SAP S/4HANA, using customer information directly from the ERP. The teams developed a lightweight and elegant way to transfer their product data into the configurator, ensuring smooth and reliable synchronization.

The SteelcoBelimed x CAS Merlin CPQ implementation faced tight deadlines and a high degree of uncertainty. Thanks to a clear vision, strong management support, and a focused project structure, the team delivered successfully. The collaboration between SteelcoBelimed, CAS Software AG, and internal IT teams played a key role, enabling quick decisions, continuous alignment, and a shared commitment to results.

CPQ as a growth driver: what comes next?

Following the successful CAS Merlin CPQ implementations at Miele Professional and SteelcoBelimed, Miele Professional is preparing to roll out CPQ to additional countries and product lines. The long-term objective is to offer a broader range of configurable products and, in doing so, strengthen Miele’s commitment to flexibility, customer focus, and digital excellence.

SteelcoBelimed will also continue to expand its CPQ footprint by integrating new service products into the system and developing a dedicated portal for distributors and dealers.
The success of these implementations highlights not only the flexibility of CAS Merlin CPQ but also the strategic strength of the Miele Group’s unified digital approach: one backbone, shared expertise, and a consistent vision across all business units.
